New Dental Patient Experience

Wondering what your first appointment at our office will entail? Below you will find a detailed outline of what services each new patient will get.

Our New Patient Experience is likely one of the most thorough dental exams you’ve ever had.

  • Upon entering, you check in at the front desk! The staff up front will need a copy of your ID and insurance card to scan in to your record.

  • Once you’re all checked in, you can wait in the waiting area until one of our clinical team members calls you back!

  • Once you’re brought back, you’ll be a given a tour of the office so you know where all the bathroom, treatment rooms, check out and emergency exits are! (feel free to opt out of the tour by letting our clinical staff member know you just want to get down to business!)

  • After the tour, you’ll be seated in a treatment room. The clinical staff member will verify your medical and dental history (make sure to bring a list of medications with you!) and any areas of concern.

Next, you’ll have your full mouth Xray (FMX) series taken.

As a new patient at our office, it is imperative that we establish a COMPLETE dental record for you. Xrays are a very important part of your exam - it allows Dr. Sana to see decay in between teeth or under existing restorations (crowns, fillings, bridges). It also allows her to see any infections that may be present at the end of the root. A FMX allows a thorough look at every tooth, and is necessary to fully diagnose any dental conditions (After all, to see is to know. Not to see is to guess & we won’t guess about your health!)

If you’ve had a FMX within the last year please have these X-rays emailed to info@sanadentalstudio.com. Depending on the quality of the X-rays (is there overlap, are all the roots showing, have there been any changes since X-rays were taken, etc) Dr. Sana may still require a new series.

Insurance companies typically only cover FMXs once every 3-5 years (another indicator that they don’t care about your overall well-being, but rather saving money by denying you necessary diagnostic procedures). If you’ve had an FMX within the last 3-5 years, you will be responsible for the cost of the X-rays at your contracted insurance rate.

Many people worry about radiation in regards to X-rays. We can assure you, due to advances in technology and our commitment to ensure our patients with the best & safest experience, our handheld X-ray system has a DOUBLE PROTECTION DESIGN (Internal Shielding & External Backscatter Shielding)

3D Full Mouth Scan

Another diagnostic tool we provide for every patient is our 3D full mouth scan. We use the iTero Element® 5D imaging system. This one scan will capture a plethora of information and allow you to seeing EXACTLY what Dr. Sana is seeing.

  • No more goop! The scan allows for 3D digital impressions or diagnostic casts. These casts reproduce the upper and lower jaws, teeth, gingival tissues, and palatal area. It also provides us with a baseline of how you started out our office to refer back to.

  • Cavity detection with near-Infrared Imaging (NIRI) technology. This advanced technology allows us to scan internal tooth structure and records changes in tooth structures to detect cavities before it can be diagnosed clinically or radiographically. This is referred to as non-ionizing diagnostic procedures. The cavities you may have will GLOW so you can see exactly where the cavities are yourself.

  • Crisp intraoral photos of every tooth so you can see exactly what your teeth look like!

  • Treatment simulation gives you the option to see what your new smile could look like if you’ve been interested in Invisalign®.

  • This scan MAY be skipped if you are missing the majority of your teeth

Your Comprehensive Exam

The last part of the New Patient Experience is the comprehensive exam, during which we take a look tooth by tooth and mark all existing dental work that you’ve had and any new findings that could be of concern.

  • We will then look at all the scans and x-rays together, Dr. Sana will answer all of your questions and together we’ll make a treatment plan that makes sense for YOU.

  • If you have any necessary treatment, the treatment coordinator will put it all together, maximize your insurance benefits and complete a treatment plan presentation.

  • If you are scheduled for a cleaning appointment, your next stop will be to see the hygienist!

A Couple things to note in regards to our New Patient Experience:

  • It is a very detailed and thorough exam. Expect the entire x-rays, exam, scanning process to be about an hour. Our standard of care will not be lowered based on insurance coverage.

  • At Sana Dental Studio + Spa, we do not allow supervised neglect. Your overall health is our number one priority and that includes oral health.

  • Insurance companies cannot and should not dictate treatment needs. The diagnosis of what treatment is needed is made by Dr. Yusuf.

  • The thoroughness of our new patient exam helps establish your current dental conditions & allows you to have a complete record on file at our office.

Ensuring a stellar New Patient Experience at our practice is our top priority. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the office.
